Finally something that works January 3, 2009 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My grandmother who lives in a retirement community in Union City, California (near Alverado-Niles and Dyer)needed an antennea for the Feb 2009 HDTV changeover. Because of limited retirement income satellite or cable were not an option. Roof mounting was out of the equation as well. Tried a couple of RCA's, cheap and pricey, from the local Best Buy etc. with no luck. Each required gramdma to get out of her chair and respostion the antennea depending on what channel she wanted to watch. Not exactly what you want to do when you are 87. With the Winegard SS-3000 its no longer an issue with it setting on top of the TV at about 4ft of the ground. Works for the VHF and UHF HDTV signals in the San Francisco Bay area. Note I did have to assemble for grandma - took about 5 minutes.
Almost unbelievable results January 2, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I live in Berkeley and got the nearby mix from San Francisco (3 Miles) but couldn't pull in a host of others including some from San Jose.
Took me 10 minutes to put the rig together and now I get everything in my area and beyond. Just may kiss my cable/satellite goodbye!
The Best!
Works Great January 1, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a bit skeptical as to whether this would bring in all the digital stations, since the three other digital antennas I tried were no better than my old rabbit ears. It brings in all the station I should be getting and three public stations that are hard to get. I'm on the first floor of an apartment and get stations from nearly 50 miles away. It picks up all the stations, without having to reposition. Must be the amplified signal that makes the difference. It does seem overpriced, though, at ~$60 for a piece of plastic with some wires, which is why I give it less than 5 stars, but it does work well.
Works Great December 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This a good product.
Prior to buying this antenna I had a passive/un-powered antenna. I spent many hours trying to locate it to find good reception. Finally, with a long coaxial cable attached, I found fair reception on the opposite side of the room. Still the signal would frequently break up. I was frequently adjusting the signal direction knob to get good reception.
Now, with this powered Winegard antenna, I located it behind the TV, connected it to the VCR, plugged it into the electical outlet, and started to watching uninterrupted TV. It eliminated lots of frustration.
Works fine.. that's it just fine. December 26, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After my old RCA amplified rabbit eared antenna finally broke down after 6 years of use, I figured I would check out the antenna market to see what's new. I like quality products that will last; and after reading reviews from multiple websites, I thought the SS-3000 would be my best bet.
Since my old antenna broke before I got my converter box, I can't compare digital reception. As far as analog goes, my old antenna worked just as well; the picture quality and the channels received were the same. The channels that came in snowy before are still snowy, and the channels I had to adjust the antenna for before I still have to adjust the antenna for now, so I'm really not missing anything; I just didn't gain anything.
My digital experience has been rather dicey. The signal strength can go from the 70's to 0 in the blink of an eye. I don't know if it's a local problem or an antenna problem yet. In any case, when this continually happens, the program views like a badly scratched DVD.
