Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Logitech Harmony 1000 features a brilliant 3.5-inch color touch screen that allows for one-touch activity-based control of even the most sophisticated A/V components. Say goodbye to the inconvenience of multiple remotes controlling multiple devices; Logitech's patented Smart State Technology makes it easy to control your HDTV, adjust aspect ratios, or change sound modes?there are no complicated macros to program. Just press an on-screen activity icon and Harmony does the rest. One remote is all you'll need to control even the most complex home entertainment systems. And when used together with a Harmony RF Wireless Extender (sold separately), you can further reduce clutter by placing your components out of sight. Since the remote can transmit both infrared and radio frequency commands, you can control equipment inside a cabinet or even in the next room. Package Contents - Logitech Harmony 1000 remote control / Charging station / USB cable /AC Adapter / Lithium-ion battery / Installation CD / Installation guide / 1-year warranty

4 out of 5 stars A Good Universal Remote   January 8, 2009
This particular universal remote is good in that it allows for controlling several electronic components such as watch tv, dvd, cable etc. It is somewhat limited with respect to its competor, the Pronto, it that the Pronto has greater flexibility with macros and allows for greater customization of functions. The Pronto is, however, more expensive that the Harmony 1000.

4 out of 5 stars High Tech Logitech   January 8, 2009
I bought the Harmony 1000, and can say it is well worth the $300-400 price tag for those with high end home entertainment systems. It programmed quite easily compared to say the Phillips Pronto I also own, which cost more and required about 20 hours of crunching on the PC software and "learn" functions to get right (now I'm afraid to change the components!) I programmed a DVD, AV receiver, TV, and DirecTV DVR, very easily on the Harmony, in 20 minutes, and on a Mac - the software is Java based on the internet, so no platform worries. I did have some problem with programming the Apple TV, but a call to customer support cleared this up easily. Again the internet based software meant they could access my Harmony settings through the net, write a new configuration for the Apple TV, have me test it, and then delete the old/non-functional configuration. Neat.

5 out of 5 stars Best Universal Remote Ever   January 7, 2009
Before I purchased this remote I read all of the reviews. There were some negative ones that disturbed me but I decided to take a chance anyway. I'm glad I did. Prior to this remote I had a Home Theater MX 500. It was adequate for me but it did take a while to set it up and my wife disliked it. What a difference with this remote. Now you just select what you want to do whether it's watch TV or watch a DVD or put the computer on the TV/Monitor and it just does it. If there is ever a problem you hit help and it guides you through a solution. Setting it up was the easiest thing I've ever done. I know there were some people who complained about the touch screen but I haven't found that to be much of a problem at all. Some people have complained about the touch screen itcons being too close and not configurable in terms of where they're located on the screen and once again this hasn't been an issue. I purchased the wireless extender with this and now we can close the door on the cabinet that houses our cable box, stereo and DVD player. It works seamlessly. Basically I can't think of anything to say negative about the device. There was some indication that the device locked up. That happened to me once. I removed the battery and put it back in and that took care of the problem. Since then it's never happened again. I think, although I could be wrong, that it might have been related to putting the remote in the cradle while I was using it. I haven't done that since. I basically use it for the evening and then put it back in the cradle at the end of the night. Thus far this has worked well. I'm glad I purchased this item. It didn't hurt that with the rebate it was about half of the original retail price. I've seen it even lower since. Perhaps more importantly than any of the above, my wife loves this remote. If you've thought about getting one of these stop thinking and get one. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Thank You Logitech & Amazon   January 6, 2009
I own several Logitech Remotes and they all work great.
The Harmony 1000 is by far the best remote I ever owned.
Large viewing screen for the over 50 generation, feels great in your hands with the non slip backing.Programing was easy with the included software. If your looking for a remote that controls everthing, buy this one.You can't beat the price that Amazon has to offer, I have seen it in stores for almost double what Amazon sells it for.
Thanks Again Logitech & Amazon.

1 out of 5 stars Not fully functioning RF Capability, Marketing was misleading   January 5, 2009
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I bought the remote for easy control of TV components in a hidden cabinet along with control of some home automation lighting control. The short story is that I went in circles being mislead by Logitech tech support for about 5 hours of my time (total). It wasn't until I asked for an answer in writing that I got the truth and the truth is that the 1000 is not fully compatible with the RF extender. It will not support home automation unless it is IR (though there are a few home automation IR products almost all of them are RF). I ended up returning this and getting the 890. The 890 with the RF extender was about $200 less expensive and even if the 1000 had the z-wave capability after using both I like the 890 better anyway.
