Manual A/V selector December 28, 2008 This item was the perfect solution for my parents. They can now easily switch between audio video signals from their cable TV box/VCR/and DVD player. The televisions many input selections were confusing to them, this manual device which I labeled with a label maker made using the various devices they have as easy as pushing a button. Another useful application for this device would be for someone with an older TV that doesn't have enough inputs. The only draw back to this device that I took notice of; there is no easy way to hook up a device using composite video inputs (for HD), as opposed to the less detailed component video or S-video inputs.
Composite Selector December 22, 2008 The Sima SVS-14 works just like advertised, you can connect up to four composite signals to one. My new HDTV only had one composite input, but I had a need for two, this works great. The only down side is I have to get off my butt to push the button :)
A/V Switcher September 20, 2008 Excellent product! Simple smooth manual switching. I use the RCA jacks, but s-video jacks are also at each position. All jacks are on back where they belong, except the 3.5mm audio jack on the front for use with headset. Highly recommended!
works fine, just what I needed September 15, 2008 I used it in the "backwards" mode mentioned by a previous reviewer: the switch connects one signal source (FIOS DVR)to destination A (my TV) or destination B (a device called ADS DVD Xpress that converts TV signal to USB format for computer). I like that the switch needs no power - I already have a jungle of power cords and "wall warts" for the TV, DVR, VCR, modulator (to convert VCR output to composite video), etc. This switch does not seem to noticeably degrade the audio or video signal quality.
Works great, but missing a little polish July 24, 2008 I just got done with messing with a nameless A/V switcher my brother found laying around and the Sima compares much better for what is an almost identical feature set.
A huge plus is that the Sima doesn't require any power whatsoever. All switching is done via hardware and you feel a distinct clicking sound when you press a button to change the source.
I only worked with RCA in and headphone audio out, but those were solid and served my purposes.
My primary gripe about the unit is a cosmetic thing: It's all black and since there are no LEDs (due to no power - good thing), it can be hard to determine which source is selected in low light when looking at the front. It would have been nice if they could have used some paint on the button edges to help you discern the edges more quickly at a glance.
I'm glad I got this thing and it did exactly what it advertised for me.
