Great GPS, a bit sluggish and poor customer support June 16, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
All the great reviews convinced me to buy this GPS. Overall I am very happy with it and all the great features. You can read all the great reviews and, other than being a little sluggish and the telephone function is hard to hear and does not always answer when someone calls, I agree with the reviews. My BIG problem is with customer service, lack of an informative owners manual, and a poor, poor, user-unfriendly web site that does not work half of the time. I tried to register my new Nuvi 760 and got a message that it was already registered by someone else. I tried to search the FAQ to find out what kind of memory card I should buy and could not find any information. Also there is some kind of service that will help you navigate around bad traffic but I could not find anything on how to use it or what I need to do to activate it. I think there is someway to update your maps, my 760 came with a 2007 map date, but I can't find any thing to tell me how or am not sure if there really is a way to do it. I tried to call customer service and kept getting the busy signal. When I did get the phone to ring, I was advised that all support people were busy and there was a 30+ minute wait. What good are all these great features if you can't find any info on how to use them. Until Garmin gets their act together I would recommend you hold off buying any Garmin product. Check out their web site at www.garmin.com and see for yourself.
Good GPS unit June 16, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this for my wife's car. She has been using my StreetPilot 2620 but complained that the menu options were too complicated. She likes the Nuvi 760 a lot. The suction cup mount works great (she mounted the included flat suction plate on her dash), the chip is faster than the StreetPilot, the screen is bright, the unit gets her where she wants to go. Among the liked features (her) - "where am I" option, small size (fits in purse), stays put on the dash when she drives, simple menus. My comparison to my StreetPilot - quicker redraw, brighter screen (or may just appear so since it has a white background and the StreetPilot has a yellow background). I like the fact that the Nuvi has a battery and can go with you when you walk in town and find where you left the car. I prefer the greater number of options on the StreetPilot (new location, detailed map formats, tabs on the display), but she likes the simplicity of the Nuvi. At the Amazon price of about $360, this was a great buy. Works well in Bluetooth with my Blackberry. And, the maps are up-to-date out of the box.
Garmin NUVI 760 June 16, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews on the GPS Magazine website (http://www.gpsmagazine.com/2007/10/garmin_nuvi_760_review.php) I decided I would definitely go with a Garmin. In my opinion, hands down, the routing capabilities of the Garmin units surpass anything else out there at present. Kudos to Garmin! The next choice was just finding one that would be portable enough so I wouldn't leave it in my car (any GPS left in a car is a theft magnet), and had sufficient options to make my car (1996 Camry) equal to the high-tech cars of today. I've used the bluetooth connection with my phone, the media player, the additional software for adding your personalized POI's, and in all aspects, I am very happy with the functionality of the unit. My only point of contention would be that the traffic avoidance is not included as part of the purchase, like it is with the Navigon units. I live a hour outside of NYC, and only frequently would be anywhere near the traffic coverage areas. So, for me, the three month trial period is a waste since I can't prevent its activation until such time as I might need it.

Very nice unit. Quick update time. Bluetooth works flawlessly. Like the fact that the Nuvi tells you which side of the road your destination is on. The only downside is the FM transmitter which can be a bit "staticy" at times. However I would easily recommend this unit to a friend.
Great, except the Bluetooth June 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This model is excellent, but let me point out the flaws first. The Bluetooth doesn't work very well. Everyone I've talked to said I sounded very distant, and there was an echo with a delay. The speaker volume is very low even at it's maximum setting. It nags you with a low battery alert once you get to 2 of 3 bars. I wish it would leave you alone until it reaches 1 bar. I usually wind up plugging in the car charger just to stop it from bugging me :-) If you don't plan on using the traffic subscription service, then you should get the nuvi 750 and save some money. Everything else works very well. It's quick to pick up the satellite signal, has very clean map graphics, lots of Points of Interests included, etc.
